Nam gears for level 2 coaching training

Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) has announced plans to hold Level 2 Netball Coaching training.

Nam General Secretary (GS) Yamikani Khungwa-Kauma said the training would be held across all the three regions of the country.

The first course will cater to Central Region participants and will run from March 10 to 19 at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe whereas the second one will take place at Blantyre Sports Arena, formerly Blantyre Youth Centre, running from March 24 to April 2.

The third course will cater to Northern Region participants, running from April 7 to 16 at Katoto Secondary School.

Khungwa-Kauma said participants would be required to pay a K40,000 training fee.

“Payment should be made before the commencement [of the course]. Make your payment five days before the commencement date of the training. This will help in proper planning.

“Coaches eligible to attend Level 2 training are those who hold a Level 3 Netball Coaching Certificate, Africa-level coaching certificates, or Malawi Gold, Silver or Bronze certificates. Coaches who are actively coaching netball clubs in Malawi and have relevant certifications are encouraged to apply,” Khungwa-Kauma said.

The Nam GS said individuals who hold coaching certificates but are not currently coaching any team would not be permitted to attend the training.

“Training will run daily at all regional venues. There is no provision for accommodation/ meals: Please note that no accommodation, transport, meals or refreshments will be provided during [the course of] the training,” she said.

Retired netballer Neffie Kam’mata, while commending Nam for facilitating the training, asked the association to soften its stance on inactive coaches.

“The course is important in the development of the sport as it enables coaches to upgrade. The only concern, though, is on the eligibility aspect. I think they should be open to everyone who wants to upgrade so that others should be enticed to start coaching teams. I also feel that the fee is on the higher side,” Kam’mata said.
