
The Malawi National Football Team Coach Kalisto Pasuwa has named a 25-member provisional squad ahead of the 2025 African Nations Championship (Chan) qualifier against South Africa.
The Flames will host South Africa’s Bafana Bafana on May 3 at Bingu National Stadium before a return leg at Lucas Moripe Stadium on May 11 in Pretoria, South Africa.
Among the new faces are FCB Nyasa Big Bullets defender Andrew Juvinala, Mighty Tigers goalkeeper Lucky Tizola, Mighty Wanderers defender Emmanuel Nyirenda, midfielder Blessings Singini, striker Promise Kamwendo, Ekhaya FC defender Fanizo Mwansambo, Moyale Barracks midfielder Charles Nkhoma and Kamuzu Barracks Strikers Zeliat Nkhoma and Olson Kanjira.
Pasuwa has maintained a bulk of the squad that played Comoros in the first round in February.
Binwell Katinji, who scored two goals in a two-legged tie against Comoros is in the squad alongside goalkeeper George Chikooka, Maxwell Paipi, Nickson Mwase, Lloyd Aaron, Wisdom Mpinganjira, Gaddie Chirwa and
But Bullets striker Ephraim Kondowe is among the surprise exclusions.
Kondowe played all the two matches against Comoros.
Wanderers blossoming defender Masiya Manda and Karonga United rising star Allen Chihana have also been excluded from the squad.
The squad is expected to go into camp on Monday ahead of the two matches.
Malawi progressed to the second round following a 4-0 aggregate victory over Comoros.
They defeated Comoros by 2-0 margins in each of the two legs.
The Flames have never qualified for the Chan finals since its inception in 2008.
On the other hand, South Africa eliminated Egypt following a 4-2 victory over Egypt on aggregate.
