The ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has accused Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) of orchestrating and financing violent demonstrations in the country.

This claim comes after recent violent incidents in Lilongwe where masked men wielding pangas attacked people and burned two vehicles to disrupt the demonstrations.
In an interview with MIJ Online Jessie Kabwila Spokesperson for MCP alleges that the party has evidence showing DPP’s involvement in funding the demonstrations through Sylvester Namiwa.
Kabwila claims that the demonstrations were staged after funding was provided and when disagreements over money sharing arose the situation escalated into violence.

Meanwhile, Shadric Namalomba, spokesperson for the DPP, has strongly denied allegations that they were the ones funding recent violent foiled demonstrations in Lilongwe.
Namalomba questioned the MCP’s narrative asking if the alleged funding by DPP would justify the MCP sending panga-wielding men to attack Namiwa and torch vehicles.
According to Namalomba, DPP did not fund the demonstrations stating that they merely endorsed the actions of the demonstrators.
