The chairperson of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Blantyre district, Malango Maganga, has encouraged organisations to train youths in vocational skills to minimise economic challenges.
Maganga made the remarks in Lunzu during a graduation ceremony for 36 youths who completed a plumbing course, facilitated by Hope for Girls and Women Foundation, Young Mind Development Organisation and Chitani Community Sustainable Development Organisation.
Maganga commended the three organisations for imparting knowledge and skills to youths, enabling them to become self-reliant.
He therefore urged other organisations to emulate this gesture, emphasising the importance of economically empowering young people through skills training.
The chairperson advised the graduates to utilise their skills to establish their businesses, rather than relying on limited job opportunities.
He also requested that NEEF provide soft loans to the youth to help them set up businesses.
“In Blantyre, there are over 100 organisations, and if each trains youths in vocational skills, the lives of our young people can be transformed. We aim to see these young people become economically independent and contribute to the country’s development,” he said.
The Director of Hope for Girls and Women Foundation, Tendai Malinda, revealed plans to train 100 more youths this year, aligning with Malawi’s 2063 agenda to empower youths and promote self-economic independence.
One of the graduates, Cynthia Smart, expressed gratitude for the support, saying the skills gained would help her establish a business and empower her life and relatives.
