Blantyre giants seek Airtel Top 8 semifinal slots

Blantyre City archrivals FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Mighty Wanderers are on the road this weekend for their 2025 Airtel Top 8 second leg quarterfinal return matches.

Defending champions Bullets are in Lilongwe against Creck Sporting Club at Nankhaka Stadium Saturday while Mighty Wanderers take on Karonga United at Karonga Ground on Sunday.

A fortnight ago, Creck held Bullets to a goalless draw at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

Bullets coach Peter Mponda said it was possible for them to win away from home.

“It is not written anywhere that you must always win at home. I do not think football is meant to be like that. So, we will go flat out for victory,” Mponda said.

His Creck counterpart Joseph Kamwendo said his charges were looking forward to reaching their first ever semifinal.

Kamwendo said they had prepared well for the match against the crowd-pullers.

“Everything is on track and we are ready to face the defending champions. We know how tough the game will be but the boys are up for the task. We will, therefore, go flat out with high hopes of winning,” he said.

Wanderers captain Lawrence Chaziya said Karonga were unpredictable.

“We saw what they did when we met at Kamuzu Stadium. It was not an easy match but we will do our best to emerge victorious and march into the semifinals. I remain confident that we will sail through.

“We are doing our best as players to pass through this stage and I know it is possible. We are getting prepared for this crucial match, fully aware that Karonga are tough at home,” Chaziya said.
