The Ministry of Health has reaffirmed its commitment to fighting malaria, as the country saw 6.4 million cases in 2023.
These remarks were made during the 2024 World Malaria Day under the theme “Advancing Health Equity, Gender Equality, and Human Rights.”
In 2023, Malawi registered a total of 1670 malaria deaths and contributed to 25 percent of all Out- patients Department attendance
In an interview with MIJ Online, Khumbize Kandodo, the Health Minister, explained that the government has put in place strategies, like handing out 11.7 million mosquito nets across the country and using malaria vaccines to reduce the spread of the disease.
Chiponda stressed how important it is for everyone to work together to get rid of malaria, which is still one of the main reasons people die.
On the other hand, Dr. Michael Kayange, who works for the World Health Organization (WHO), asked the Government and its partners to work harder to make sure 80% of people are protected from malaria by 2030.
