Dr. Matthews Mtumbuka, UTM aspiring Member of Parliament for Rumphi Central Constituency, has pledged to push for legislation guaranteeing university entry slots for students from Community Day Secondary Schools (CDSS) if elected.

Mtumbuka made the declaration at a graduation ceremony at Lundu and Chikwawa CDSS in the constituency emphasizing the need for equity in higher education.
He argued that the current university selection system favors students from elite schools, leaving capable CDSS students behind.
Mtumbuka plans to introduce a specific university quota for CDSS learners to level the playing field and inspire hope among rural students.

“I believe this policy will unlock the potential of bright but disadvantaged learners across Malawi, ” he said.
The proposal was welcomed by parents and teachers, who deemed it timely and necessary.
Mtumbuka also commended the teachers’ dedication and encouraged the graduating students to remain focused and resilient.
