Kondwani Kachamba, a multi-award-winning entrepreneur, has expressed serious concerns regarding the negligence of the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) during peaceful protests in Lilongwe. The demonstrations were disrupted by unknown thugs who vandalized property, set vehicles ablaze, and assaulted Silvester Namiwa of Citizens for Credible Elections (CfCE) in the presence of security forces, including the Malawi Police Service (MPS).
Namiwa organized the protests to demand the resignation of Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Chairperson Justice Annabel Mtalimanja and Chief Elections Officer, Andrew Mpesi due to allegations of incompetence.

The failure of the MPS and the MDF, who were present at the scene, to intervene has sent shockwaves through the nation. Kachamba remarked, “This is embarrassing,” underscoring the gravity of the situation, which feels like a betrayal of trust.
In a Facebook post on Friday, he stated that the MDF and MPS are capable of much more, stressing that they should never compromise their expertise.
“Yes, politics can exist, but you can’t forge alliances with thugs wielding panga knives who terrorize innocent people and set their vehicles ablaze in broad daylight,” he added with empathy, likening the scenario to a ship adrift in a storm without a captain.
Kachamba further articulated his disappointment, saying, “I had so much respect for the MDF, I never imagined you could stoop this low.”
He noted that this is his first experience of the MDF aligning with thugs, although he has previously witnessed similar actions involving the police.
In conclusion, Kachamba declared that the MDF has let down the entire nation, leaving citizens feeling trapped between a rock and a hard place.
