Erik Paliani’s jazz culture continues

Singer and guitarist Erik Paliani remains committed to promoting jazz in Malawi, promising to keep the genre vibrant through live concerts and other sessions.

After successful jazz sessions in Zambia recently, Paliani, known for collaborations with jazz maestro Hugh Masekela, is set to perform at The Shed Winery in Lilongwe this Saturday.

He plans to introduce a ‘Jazz and Wine Club’ which he described as a unique initiative.

“This is an exciting venture where we combine the exclusivity of jazz culture with the sophistication of wine culture. Our aim is to introduce people to the pleasure of enjoying wine accompanied by jazz,” the artist explained.

Earlier this year, Paliani hosted jazz sessions in Blantyre and Lilongwe whose aim was to unite artists and foster a deeper appreciation for the genre.

“Through the Jazz and Wine Club, I hope to engage potential sponsors, banks and jazz enthusiasts to support the Erik Paliani brand,” he said.

Paliani, who established an academy at Kayesa Creative Centre in Mchinji, further aims to provide a platform for local talent and build partnerships through initiatives like these.

“We plan to make this a monthly event, starting with a launch and then passing on the mantle to others like Maggie Kadrum and Dan Khoviwa, who are doing remarkable work. There is immense talent that needs exposure,” he affirmed.

Accompanied by JJ Munthali on bass guitar and Lyton Chisuse on drums, Paliani continues to strive towards elevating Malawi’s jazz scene.

“We have much ground to cover. Malawi has great potential in jazz and through performances and other activities, I intend to cultivate interest and lay a solid foundation for future success on the global stage,” he concluded.
