Bravehearts in Elite 16 tough group

Reigning Malawi basketball champions Bravehearts have been drawn in Group A of the Elite 16 Road to 2025 Basketball Africa League (BAL) qualifiers at Kasarani Indoor Court in Nairobi, Kenya.

The qualifiers will run from tomorrow to December 3.

Bravehearts are in Group A alongside Kriol Stars from Capeverde, MBB from South Africa and Nairobi City Thunders from Kenya.

The team is expected to leave for Kenya today.

Bravehearts Coach Griffin Kalua said the team was determined to make another history.

“We will continue from where we left in South Africa. The boys are in high spirits ahead of the qualifiers,’’ Kalua said.

According a fixture released Tuesday, Bravehearts will open their campaign against Kriol tomorrow before facing MMB on Friday.

They will wrap up group stage campaign against Nairobi on Sunday.

The team has stepped up its preparations for the tournament having played several friendly matches.

Group B comprises City Oilers from Uganda, Urunani from Burundi, Matero Magic from Zambia and Fox Sports Basketball from South Sudan.

Two teams will qualify for the 2025 Bal to be staged next year.

Bravehearts became the first Malawian team to achieve the feat after an impressive performance during the Group E of the Eastern Division qualifiers held in Harare last month.

The odds were stacked against Bravehearts as they had only a squad of eight players following the ineligibility of some players but they showed great character to write their own piece of history.

They were brave and overcame Mozambique champions Costa do Sol 73- 71 in the final match to secure a ticket to the Elite 16.
