Health rights activists have called for sustained efforts to implement the Mental Health Bill which President Lazarus Chakwera has just assented into law.

The new legislation, which replaces the 1948 Mental Treatment Act, aims to support individuals with mental health issues and reduce stigma.
Speaking to MIJ Online, Maziko Matemba, a health rights campaigner said the changed law is a crucial step towards improving access to mental health services.
Matemba has since urged the government to ensure the law’s provisions are fully enforced, for those affected by mental health issues.
