The TNM Super League title race enters an exciting phase as giants Silver Strikers, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Mighty Mukuru Wanderers face tricky opponents in their respective matches this afternoon.

Leaders Silver will hope to tighten their grip at the summit of the log table when they meet resurgent Bangwe All Stars at Balaka Stadium whereas second-placed Wanderers host Fomo at Kamuzu Stadium.

On the back of three consecutive victories in the TNM Super League for the first time this season, Bullets will face Mzuzu City Hammers at Mzuzu Stadium.

This is a crucial stage in the title race this season.

It looks like a two-horse race between Silver and Wanderers this season.

Silver lead the log table with 48 points from 20 matches, seven points above Wanderers.

The Central Bankers, who last won the title in 2013, can reach 78 points if they win all the remaining matches whereas Wanderers can reach 71.

However, both Silver and Wanderers have tough assignments in their mission to win the race.

On paper, Silver are favourites to beat Bangwe.

However, both teams are enjoying a rich vein of form at the moment.

Bangwe seem to have found their mojo under new gaffer Trevor Kajawa, who has registered two straight victories in the league since he took over.

They caused an upset when they beat Bullets 1-0 at Kamuzu Stadium before beating Baka City 3-0 at Balaka Stadium.

This afternoon, coach Kajawa knows that his charges have a huge task to end Silver’s unbeaten run this season.

“Silver are a very tough side but, in football, anything can happen. We need to be positive in our approach. We desperately need points to stay in the league,” Kajawa said.

Bangwe are stuck in the relegation zone with 18 points from 21 matches.

Silver Coach Peter Mponda urged his boys to double their efforts against Bangwe.

“We expect a tough game as Bangwe have been enjoying good form recently,” Mponda said.

FACING DIFFICULT ASSIGNMENTS—Mwase

In a related development, Wanderers will hope to maintain their winning streak against Fomo. Wanderers Coach Meck Mwase said his charges were ready for the clash.

“Every game is tough at this stage but we are prepared for them,” Mwase said.

On his part, Fomo Coach Elvis Kafoteka said his charges could pull a surprise against Wanderers.

“We are underdogs but we know what we want,” Kafoteka said.

At Mzuzu Stadium, Bullets can make it four straight wins in the league for the first time this season against Hammers.

Bullets need more than miracle to defend the title as they trail Silver by 15 points with 10 matches to go.

They are fifth with 33 points, one point above Hammers.

Bullets can reach 63 points if they win all the matches.
