Miss Culture Malawi Ireen Navicha missed out on the top crown at Miss Culture Global in South Africa on Saturday.
She lost out on the crown by a whisker from Miss Culture South Africa Casey Esmeraldo and could only settle for the First Princess title.
Esmeraldo won the Miss Culture Global title, taking over from Samela Aubrey of the Phillipines.
Navicha, who is expected back home on Tuesday hailed Malawians for the support they gave her.
“I am grateful for the support that culminated in me claiming the First Princess title. I did not win the crown but this is a huge achievement,” she said.
Navicha, who is a second-year student studying indigenous knowledge systems and practices at the Malawi University of Science and Technology in Thyolo District, said she had made history for Malawi by coming second in the global contest Miss Global Chief Executive Officer and founder of Miss Culture Global, Lorraine Kljajic, said she was satisfied with results of the contest.
“I am glad that Malawi came second, claiming the First Princess [title],” she said. However, Kljajic said they had participants from 12 countries, instead of 25.
“This happened because the contestants had problems with visas. But all in all, everything went well,” she said.
