Government has stressed the need to embrace Artificial Intelligence (AI) arguing that this is key for the country to achieve its development goals outlined in the vision 2063 Agenda.

This comes as Malawi participated at the 3rd UNESCO Global Forum on the Ethics of AI held in Bangkok, Thailand, which brought together ministers and senior representatives from 194 Member States.
Speaking to MIJ Online, Jessie Kabwila Minister of Higher Education said that there is a need for early adoption of AI to prevent Malawi from being left behind in the global digital economy.
Kabwila has also revealed that Malawi has proposed establishing a Regional Hub for AI in Southern Africa with support from UNESCO.
According to Kabwila the adoption of AI is expected to drive economic growth in key sectors such as agriculture, tourism, mining, manufacturing, education, health and energy which is inline with vision 2063.
