Mighty Mukuru Wanderers failed to reduce the point gap with TNM Super League leaders Silver Strikers to six points after they were held to a goalless draw by Premier Bet Dedza Dynamos at Dedza Stadium Sunday.
Wanderers were left frustrated by a stubborn Dedza side as they cut Silver’s lead to eight points, having collected 32 points from 17 matches, one ahead of the Central Bankers, who have a match in hand.
Dedza are on position 10 with 20 points from 17 matches.
Wanderers created numerous goal-scoring chances through their Cameroonian forward Sama Thierry Tanjong but failed to turn them into goals.
The Lali Lubani Road side endured a bad finish after attacker Francesco Madinga was given marching orders in added time for a second bookable offence.
In a post-match interview, Wanderers Coach Meck Mwase admitted that it was a balanced affair as both sides created chances but failed to utilise them.
“Our friends were well prepared for the match but I have to praise my boys. Both teams had chances to score goals but failed to score them,” Mwase, whose side defeated Dedza 3-1 at Kamuzu Stadium in the first round, said.
His counterpart Andrew Bunya commended his troops although he was not impressed with the draw.
“It was difficult to create chances. The boys did a great job today even though we failed to collect maximum points as we wished,” Bunya said.
In another match, Creck Sporting Club defeated Mafco 2-1 to occupy third position with 29 points from 17 matches.
Elsewhere, Baka City drew 0-0 with Civil Service United.
