Lloyd Njaliwa inspires Costa do Sol

On-and-off Flames striker Lloyd Njaliwa scored the winner as his club Costa do Sol claimed a 2-1 victory over AD Vilanculos on Monday.

This is Njaliwa’s second goal of the campaign in the Mocambola League this season. Isaac Correia scored the other goal for Costa.

In an interview from his base in Maputo Tuesday, the former Moyale Barracks forward said he was excited.

“It feels great to score the winning goal for the team. I am really motivated. I hope I will score more goals to help the team this season,” Njaliwa said.

Njaliwa’s winner comes one week after compatriots Yamikani Chester and Richard Mbulu scored in a 2-0 victory over Ferroviario de Beira. Chester has also been in form for Costa, having scored three goals and won three player-of-the-match awards.

He said the best was yet to come from him.

“I am really enjoying playing for the team. I want to help the team win cups and titles this season,” the former Mighty Mukuru Wanderers star said.

For Mbulu, it was his first goal of the season.

Apart from Njaliwa, Chester and Mbulu, Costa have Chikoti Chirwa.

All the four Malawian players have been ever present in Costa starting line-ups this season.

The victory over Vilanculos means Costa maintained second spot with 26 points from 11 matches, one point behind leaders Black Bulls.

Meanwhile, Flames captain John Banda was in the starting line-up as UD Songo defeated Nacala 2-0 on Monday.

His compatriot Miracle Gabeya was on the bench on his return from injury.

Songo, who are coached by immediate past Mighty Mukuru Wanderers coach Mark Harrison, are third with 24 points from 11 matches.
