Drama remains my favourite, says Veep

Vice President Michael Usi, popularly known as Manganya in the creative sector, said on Wednesday that drama remains his favourite discipline and that he will continue to treasure it.

While he has not been active as he used to be before he assumed the highest office of Vice President, Usi has still kept his talent visible by appearing in other drama sets such as Sewero La Sabata Ino on MBC Radio 1.

His latest outing is his cast in a short film titled Malawi Virus which has seen him working with three Nollywood actors namely Charles Awurum, Nkiru Sylvanus and Charles Inojie having met at a birthday party for Prophet Shepherd Bushiri in Lilongwe.

“This is just to show that drama is part of my life and it will remain in me. Yes I hold the highest office but I feel drama is what made me and in utilising it, shows that it is important in development,” he said.

Usi said he wants to play a huge role in using drama to showcase the talent from Malawi as well as promote the ATM strategy which is agriculture, tourism and mining. “There are several ways that we can use to talk about tourism, mining and agriculture and art cannot be left out. I love Malawi and I want to help in its growth,” he said.

On Malawi Virus film, Usi said having discussed ay length with the three Nollywood actors; they decided to set the ball rolling by having a short film.

“The three developed the story and script while I added some ideas. By the way what people have seen so far in Malawi Virus is not all, there is still more,” he said. Usi, who produced films like Dr Manga, also hinted on mobilising a crop of actors to work on productions as part of promoting arts.

Usi said people should watch the space for movies and that with time permitting with his highest office; he will also star in other films with the Nollywood actors. Flora Suya, Tapiwa Gwaza, Ruth Simika, Bon Kalindo and Mafumu Matiki,” he said.
