Malawi women’s football stars Tabitha and Temwa Chawinga have been nominated for the prestigious Team of the Year (TOTY) award.
The Electronic Arts (EA) Sports FC Team of the Year nominees for FC 25 comprise 200 extraordinary men’s and women’s players from across the world.
Fans have the opportunity to vote for the best players, with the final XI teams scheduled to be unveiled on January 15.
According to the list released on Tuesday, Tabitha and Temwa are among a select few African female players.
Zambian striker Barbara Banda and Nigerian goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie have also been nominated for the accolade.
Tabitha said she was excited to have received the nomination.
“I am really humbled and honoured. It means a lot to me,” Tabitha said.
The Olympique Lyonnais striker was nominated for six major awards in the past year.
Tabitha was ranked seventh in the Fifa Best Women’s Footballer of the Year award last month.
She finished 16th in the 2024 Ballon d’Or and was also nominated for the Caf Women’s Footballer of the Year award.
Additionally, Tabitha had a great season in France, winning the Women’s Footballer of the Year award. She also scooped the Golden Boot award with 19 goals and 11 assists.
On her part, Temwa appealed to the fans to vote for her.
“It is not a small achievement. I am happy that so many people appreciate what I did last year,” she said.
Temwa, who plays for Kansas City Current, broke several records in the National Women’s Super League, having won the Golden Boot award with 20 goals. She was also voted the Most Valuable Player in 2024.
The 26-year-old striker was the overall top goal scorer in the world, netting 63 goals for country and club in 2023.
