Old-timer Giddes Chalamanda popularly known as Agidde has been given a perfect treat ahead of the From The Ashes concert as he is set to fly to Lilongwe on Friday.
The ‘Che Meli’ and ‘Liny’ maker is on the line-up of performers at the From The Ashes concert that has been organised to raise funds to support rapper Tay Grin who lost property following a fire accident at his house. The concert will be held tomorrow at Bingu International Convention Centre.
One of the organisers of the concert, Lawi said the decision to fly Agidde was made after realising that he could not travel long distances by road due to old age.
“Agidde is a legend and we love him. We are honoured to have him perform at this concert and we thought it wise to fly him,” Lawi said.
He said they wanted Agidde, who is now in his 90s to perform to his best hence choosing to fly him. “This is also part of thanking him for contributing immensely to the growth of music in the country.
He has inspired many musicians including me so, he deserves this,” Lawi said. He then assured fun lovers of the best during the concert.
Agidde has since thanked the organisers for giving him an opportunity of flying to the capital city. “I was very happy when Paul Subiri told me that I will fly to go to Lilongwe.
This is special. All I can say is that I am ready,” the musician said. Other artists performing at the concert include Temwa, Lulu, Kell Kay and Gwamba.
Meanwhile, the organisers have said there will be other activities during the concert apart from music and it includes games. The games have been designed to bring fun to the concert and also show love to Tay Grin.
Several companies have come out to support the concert and they include MobiPay Malawi, Prime Time Limited, Umodzi Park and Chibiso Motors.
