The Arts Sustainability Lab, a youthful theatre group, has announced plans to tour southern Africa with its play Half Past 2 following its premiere at the Jacaranda Cultural Centre (JCC) in Blantyre on Sunday.
The two-act play, featuring Shakirah Manjomo and Praise Chigwe, received positive feedback from theatre enthusiasts at the premiere.
Jack Msumba, a member of the group, said their motivation to tour southern Africa stemmed from the support received during the premiere.
“We have already begun discussions with our contacts in Zambia and South Africa,” Msumba said.
He also mentioned the group’s plan to collaborate with Young Travellers Theatre in October, saying there is much more they want to share with the audience.
“During the reflection session after the play, the audience’s comments were very encouraging. Overall, the play was well received,” Msumba said. Half Past 2 is a compelling drama that explores the complex dynamics of love, revenge and redemption.
Set against the backdrop of a wealthy family’s business empire, the play follows the intertwined lives of Lekani, a privileged young woman played by Shakirah, and Maganizo, a young man with a hidden agenda, played by Praise.
