Silver Strikers coach Peter Mgangira has chosen Mapopa Msukwa as his assistant coach.
Mgangira, who was promoted as Silver coach following the resignation of Peter Mponda last month, was given freedom to choose his backroom staff.
Silver’s Chief Executive Officer Patrick Chimimba Friday could neither confirm nor deny the prospect of Msukwa becoming their assistant coach.
“The coach will give us updates when he is ready. So, I will not comment on the issue,” Chimimba said.
Mgangira was not readily available for his comment Friday.
In a separate interview, Msukwa confirmed that he had agreed terms with Silver.
“I received some offers but the Silver one was attractive. I am happy that the discussions went on smoothly,” the former MDC United midfielder said.
Msukwa, a Caf B coaching licence holder, was also linked with 2024 Castel Challenge Cup runners-up Mzuzu City Hammers, newly promoted sides Ekhaya FC and Songwe Border FC.
Malawi News Sport has established that apart from Mapopa, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Reserve coach Enos Chatama was also approached but he insisted he was not approached.
“I do not know anything about it,” he said.
Mgangira has maintained Young Chimodzi Jnr as the second assistant coach whereas Emmanuel Chipatala is still the team manager.
Silver Under-20 coach Green Harawa has been earmarked as strikers’ trainer whereas former Flames goalkeeper Philip Nyasulu will take up the role of goalkeepers’ trainer.
Meanwhile, Silver have completed the signing of striker Samuel Adeyemi and attacking midfielder Festus Duwe.
Adeyemi has joined Silver on a three-year contract from Mzuzu City Hammers whereas Duwe has also signed a similar deal from Ascent Soccer Academy.
Chimimba said Silver were excited with the acquisition of the two players.
“Duwe is one of the most talented players in domestic football. The technical panel looked at the profile of Samuel [Adeyemi] and was convinced that he will assist us,” he said.
Duwe spent last season on loan at Civil Service United whereas Adeyemi was at Hammers. He had a brief spell with Zambian side Zesco United.
Silver are expected to take part in the 2025 Caf Champions League-ending a seven-year absence from the continental club showpiece.
Meanwhile, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Reserve Coach Enos Chatama has left the club on mutual understanding.
Both parties confirmed the development yesterday.
Bullets acting Chief Executive Officer Albert Chigoga said Chatama has left a legacy.
“We shall always remember coach Enos Chatama for the wonderful service he rendered to FCB Nyasa Big Bullets. He has left a resounding legacy with fruits that are visible in the country,” Chigoga told Bullets Facebook page.
Chatama said he wanted to face another challenge.
“It was a tough decision for me to leave Bullets, a club that has been my family for so many years. But it was time for me to take on a new challenge. Thanks to everyone at Bullets and I wish the club well,” Chatama, who joined the side in 2017, said.
During his time, Chatama led Bullets Reserves to 21 trophies and produced over 30 players.
