Moyale Barracks bank on history against Mighty Mukuru Wanderers

Struggling Moyale Barracks will be hoping that history will repeat itself when they face revamped Mighty Mukuru Wanderers in a TNM Super League match at Kamuzu Stadium this afternoon.

The soldiers have a good record against the Nomads having only lost two league matches in the last eight matches.

However, the soldiers have just won one match with five matches ending in stalemates.

Matches between the two sides ended in stalemates last season after 1-1 and 0-0 in the second and first round respectively.

The last time Wanderers beat Moyale was 1-0 at Mzuzu courtesy of Misheck Botomani’s goal. Moyale’s last win against Wanderers came in 2019 when they defeated the Nomads 3-2 at Kamuzu Stadium.

The two teams head into this afternoon’s fixture with contrasting missions.

Wanderers look set to keep up the pace in the title race having won three consecutive matches under interim coach Meck Mwase.

On the other hand, Moyale are coming from two consecutive defeats in the TNM Super League after they lost 2-0 and 2-1 to Karonga and Fomo respectively.

MOYALE COACH—Mwansa

Moyale Coach Pritchard Mwansa said his charges have what it takes to halt Wanderers’ winning streak.

“We expect a tough match against Wanderers as they are enjoying a rich vein of form. But we cannot afford to lose three consecutive matches. We will go flat out against Wanderers,” Mwansa said.

But Mwansa will have to do without three key players Raphael Phiri, Walusungu Mdoka and Leysman Singini due to illness and family reasons.

Wanderers have a chance to reduce the gap from eight points to five between them and leaders Silver Strikers if they beat Moyale this afternoon. However, Silver will face Kamuzu Barracks at Civo Stadium on Sunday.

Interim assistant coach Bob Mpinganjira believes the Nomads have an edge over Moyale.

“We are heading towards pole position in fighting for the title. We need consistency at this stage and so we just have to win,” Mpinganjira said.

Wanderers are second with 21 points from 11 matches, eight points behind leaders Silver.

Moyale are eighth with 14 points from the same number of matches.

In another match, Creck Sporting Club will face Bangwe All Stars at Civo Stadium whereas Karonga will meet Fomo at Karonga Ground.

On Sunday, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets will face Civil Sporting Club at Kamuzu Stadium whereas Mzuzu City Hammers will host Dedza Dynamos at Mzuzu Stadium. Chitipa United will face Baka City at Karonga Stadium.
