Gabadinho Mhango gives Gallants lifeline

Malawi National Football Team striker Frank Gabadinho Mhango scored a vital goal to enable his side Marumo Gallants to move out of the relegation zone in South Africa’s Premiership.

The side narrowly defeated Cape Town City 1-0 on Saturday.

The Flames forward signed off in style ahead of international duties when he scored in the seventh minute to give his side valuable points.

“Gabadinho Mhango was the hero for Marumo Gallants after his goal earned them maximum points against CT City.

“Mhango thrust Gallants into the lead and, ultimately, a win after seven minutes at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town,” farpost.co.za reported.

This is Mhango’s fifth goal of the season, having scored against former employers when Gallants defeated Orlando Pirates 2-0 at Free State Stadium two weeks ago.

Mhango could not be reached for a comment.

On his part, former Flames player Kuruwa Ngwira said Gabadinho’s form was good for the Flames.

“During international matches, you need your top players to be in shape. In this case, Gabadinho will be full of confidence and hoping to score more goals. It is good for his national team mates because they will be looking up to him for motivation,” Ngwira said.

Mhango was expected to join Flames camp in readiness for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Namibia at home, Bingu National Stadium, on Thursday and Tunisia on Monday, March 24.
