The Malawi Tourism Council (MTC) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the African Tourism Board (ATB) to enhance visibility of Malawi’s tourism products.
MTC Executive Director Memory Momba Kamthunzi said the partnership would focus on joint marketing efforts, capacity-building programs, and networking with key stakeholders across Africa.
“This MoU is a significant milestone for Malawi’s tourism industry. It will raise the profile of our unique tourism offerings and foster cultural exchanges that will benefit both Malawi and the broader African region,” Kamthunzi said.
Speaking at the signing ceremony in Blantyre on Monday, Kamthunzi added that the agreement will solidify Malawi’s position as a competitive tourism destination, drawing more international tourists and investors.
African Tourism Board global ambassador Ramy Waheed said the partnership will encourage regional cooperation, enhance the competitiveness of the tourism sector, and support the local economy through job creation and investment.
“The MoU will contribute to the country’s economic growth and development. It will also promote sustainable tourism practices, which are vital for the industry’s continuous development,” Waheed said.
He further noted that the agreement would allow Malawi to access new international markets and attract tourists seeking authentic cultural experiences and eco-friendly travel options.
The MoU is poised to create a promising future for Malawi’s tourism sector by generating employment, boosting the economy, and positioning the country as one of Africa’s top travel destinations.
