International tourism agents, investors and financiers will be rubbing shoulders, sharing insights and possibly signing deals at this year’s three-day tourism expo, which begins today in Lilongwe.
Tourism Minister Vera Kamtukule said travel agents from around the world and delegates from neighbouring countries have descended on Lilongwe for the annual grand tourism event that offers Malawi the platform to sell itself to the world.
“One cannot sell Malawi if they don’t know what the country offers, in terms of tourism attractions. They have already been taken around the country and, after the expo, they will continue to visit our attraction sites so that they can package Malawi’s tourism offer,” Kamtukule said.
On Wednesday, National Bank of Malawi became the latest company to offer its support for the event, handing over a K50 million cheque.
National Bank’s Regional Manager for the Centre and North, Shadreck Malenga, said their involvement in the tourism expo demonstrated the importance of the sector to the economy and to the banking industry in particular.
“We are supporting this sector because of the business opportunities it offers to the bank and also its importance to the economy in which we operate,” Malenga said.
The expo runs from April 23 to 25 at Bingu International Convention Centre.
