Bruised Bullets

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets have expressed regret over the 2024 season, which has cost them participation in the Charity Shield and the Caf Champions League.

For the first time in eight years, Bullets will not take part in the Charity Shield, having finished third in the TNM Super League. However, they won one elite cup, the Airtel Top 8.

The Charity Shield attracts the TNM Super League champions and the national cup holders.

In this case, Silver Strikers, who lifted the league championship, will face Castel Cup winners Mighty Mukuru Wanderers.

Albert Chigoga

Bullets Chief Executive Officer Albert Chigoga has described the team’s failure to be involved in the two competitions as worrisome.

“It is a sad development that after so many years, this year we will not play in the Charity Shield and Caf,” he said.

Chigoga admitted that the development was a clear signal that the 2024 season was one of the worst for the People’s Team, despite winning the Airtel Top 8.

“We have to accept that we were not at our best last season, but we are hopeful that with the arrival of coach Peter Mponda, we [Bullets] will bounce back strongly this season and qualify for the two competitions next season,” he said.

Chigoga added that competing in these two competitions had been helpful to the club, exposing talent and expanding revenues in the process.

Meanwhile, both Silver Strikers and Wanderers have disclosed plans to participate in continental competitions, with the Central Bankers eligible for the Caf Champions League, while the Nomads are eyeing the Caf Confederation Cup.
