The Super League of Malawi (Sulom) has expressed hope that the Mpamba Card will be implemented 100 percent in the 2025 TNM Super League season.
After holding successful trials, Sulom was expected to implement the e-ticketing system, but the Competition and Fair Trading Commission halted the initiative.
Sulom president Gilbert Mittawa said last season was a great success, having achieved key objectives, including piloting e-ticketing.
“We set objectives at the beginning of the season and some of the key achievements include increasing the league sponsorship to K500,000,000 a season.
“We also increased subventions for teams, which helped make the league more competitive and attractive. Besides that, we successfully piloted e-ticketing,” Mittawa said.
The Sulom president explained that they had learned a lot during the e-ticketing pilot phase, which would help reduce gate management flaws, leading to increased revenue.
“The Mpamba Card is an excellent innovation and a game changer for football in Malawi. It will reduce leakages of gate revenue.
“It will also give supporters an opportunity to own a card, which they can use for various purposes, including ATM withdrawals and purchases in shops. We, therefore, need to give TNM all the necessary support to ensure that it is fully operational next season,” Mittawa said.
Recently, General Manager for TNM Mpamba, Christopher Sukasuka, said the e-ticketing innovation would bring greater order to domestic football.
“E-ticketing offers convenience for all football stakeholders in managing cash. Football fans can purchase their tickets at any time, while league managers will have total control of match revenues,” he said.
