Art lights Founders Day Celebration in Blantyre

Songs, poetry, drama, traditional dances and storytelling sugared the Scout Association of Malawi Founders Day Celebration at Blantyre Sports Arena on Saturday.

Running under the theme ‘Reactivating Grassroot Scouting in Malawi’, scouts, from the young to the old, underlined the power of the arts when they used different artistic disciplines to tell inspiring stories of how scouting had impacted their lives and enabled them to make a positive difference in their communities.

Apart from showcasing their talents, the celebration gave scouts the platform to interact and learn from each other.

Scout Association of Malawi National Rover Commissioner and Chair of the Founders’ Day Celebration Edward Nyamwera described the event as a success.

“It was a celebration that, apart from offering the much-needed entertainment through performances, scouts also engaged in conversations aimed at bringing about change,” Nyamwera said.

He emphasised the importance of scouts taking robust steps to address climate change-related problems, growing food to solve food crises in their communities and being agents of peace in their societies.

Nyamwera then expressed gratitude to friends across the globe who contributed to the success of the event.

Blantyre District Youth Officer Peter Mzeya, who graced the occasion, hailed the scouts for showcasing talent as well as emphasising the importance of scouting in Malawi.

“We are committed to collaborating with the Scout Association of Malawi to promote scouting across the country. We also want to encourage scouts to continue embracing art,” Mzeya said.
