YAS places presidential debates for August

The Youth and Society (YAS), through its Youth-Decide Campaign has announced that it will conduct the Presidential Youth Debate on 10 August 2025 at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe.

The debate comes as Malawi prepares for its General Elections set for 16 September 2025.

In an interview with MIJ Online, Mwandida Theu the Coordinator of Youth-Decide Campaign said with young people aged 10 to 35 making up more than half of the country’s population, the event aims to elevate youth voices and ensure their priorities are central to national political dialogue.

Theu added that aligned with the National Youth Policy (2023–2028), the debate will give presidential candidates a platform to outline their plans for the youth, focusing on critical areas such as education, employment, climate change, digital rights, governance, and health.

The Society says it is inviting all presidential candidates, civil society actors, youth organisations, development partners, and governance institutions to support and participate in the historic event that is promoting inclusive democracy, issue-based campaigning, and peaceful political engagement.
