After being declared winner in the general secretary race, Richard Chimwendo Banda said he wanted to strengthen the party and foster unity among party members.
“I want to help President Lazarus Chakwera in making sure that the party is vibrant, grass root structures are working and everybody is taking part in party activities,” he said.
He said the party eyes more members of Parliament and ward councillors during the September 16 2025 elections.
“To achieve this, we will make sure that democracy thrives in the party,” he said.
He was not the only one wearing a winner’s tag. The other one is academician Jessie Kabwila, who has bounced back as MCP spokesperson after a six-year break, .
Kabwila got 857 votes against incumbent Ezekiel Ching’oma, who got 455 votes.
John Paul scooped the position of MCP treasurer general with 704 votes, beating Transport Minister Jacob Hara, who got 494 votes.
Mzuzu-based lawyer George Jivason Kadzipatike is the new MCP director of legal affairs after getting 974 votes against Justice Minister Titus Mvalo’s 393 votes.
Lilongwe South East lawmaker Baba Steven Malondera is the new director of youth after beating six other contestants.
The position of director of women went to Jean Sendeza, who got 479 votes to defeat five other contestants including Health Minister Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda, Esther Kathumba, Juliana Kaduya, Anne Chibwana and Dorothy Chirombo.
