Members of the Cross Borders Association are protesting in Lilongwe against the Malawi Revenue Authority’s implementation of tax stamps.
The association argues that the stamps are too costly.
Richard Kulijemwini Kampanje, the association’s chairperson, expressed surprise that the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) had instructed its officers to start enforcing the tax stamp fee on products, despite an earlier agreement to pause the initiative.
Protestors are now heading to the MRA offices in Lilongwe to submit their petition.
The excise tax stamps aim to control the consumption of unbranded and counterfeit products, ensuring the verification and authentication of product sources.
