First Choice Tigresses goal-shooter Tendai Masamba has emerged as one of Malawi National Netball Team’s outstanding performers in the ongoing Vitality Netball Nations Cup 2025 in the United Kingdom (UK).
Despite playing in an improvised goalkeeping position, Masamba has been impressive at the back, making crucial interceptions.
Her remarkable performance against Uganda helped the Queens to register their first win at the Quad Series.
Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) Vice General Secretary Charity Gondwe applauded Masamba for outstanding performances at the back.
“The Queens are on track, in terms of the rebuilding exercise.
‘However, Tendai also needs special mention as she has been brilliant at the back with crucial interceptions,” Gondwe, who did not travel with the team, said.
Masamba partnered captain Towera Vinkhumbo and wing-defender Grace Mwafulirwa in both matches the Queens have played.
When asked about her performances, Masamba was an epitome of modesty, acknowledging the feat while heaping praise on teammates.
The 2024 Rainbow Paints Blantyre and District Netball League best shooter and top goalscorer disrupted Uganda gangling shooter Mary Cholhok Nuba.
Eventually, the Queens beat Uganda 59-45 at the Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham on Sunday.
It was a timely response for the Queens, who had lost their opening match on Saturday, when they went down to hosts England 62-36.
Nevertheless, there were some concerns as both Masamba and Vinkhumbo were penalised for contacts [fouls], with each serving two minutes suspension, which could have cost the game.
Meanwhile, Queens co-coach Peace Chawinga, speaking in a post-match interview, promised to look into the lapses in discipline before the Queens face leaders South Africa at Copper Box Arena in London, UK, on Saturday.
