The Malawi Women’s National Football Team, the Scorchers, could face Zambia’s Copper Queens in an international friendly match during this month’s Women’s Fifa Window.
This comes just a day after the Scorchers advanced to the second round of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers following Congo Brazzaville’s withdrawal.
In an interview on Tuesday, Fam President Fleetwood Haiya said discussions with their Zambian counterparts were at an advanced stage.
“We are planning to play Zambia in Lusaka. We are just waiting for the official letter,” Haiya said in a brief response.
This also comes amid reports that Zambia is expected to host a Four Nations Tournament in Lusaka during the Women’s Fifa Window, which starts on February 17 to 25.
According to media reports in Zambia, the Four Nations would involve hosts Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania and Botswana.
The Scorchers and the Copper Queens are familiar foes, having last played against each other during the 2024 Cosafa Women’s Championship in South Africa.
Then, Zambia beat Malawi 2-1 in the semi-final.
