Standard Bank plc has launched the seventh edition of Be More Race, a premier athletics event which is slated to take place on July 19 2025 at Bingu National Stadium (BNS) in Lilongwe.
Speaking during the launch, which took place in Lilongwe Thursday, Standard Bank Chief Executive Officer Phillip Madinga said they wanted to put the country’s athletes on the global map.
“Our purpose is driving Malawi’s growth and the Be More Race exemplifies how unity, health and determination come together to drive real progress,” Madinga said.
He also said all proceeds from ticket sales would be donated to Athletics Malawi to support the training and development of the country’s professional athletes.
Athletics Malawi President Kondwani Chamwala commended the support, saying the partnership would take athletics in the country to the next level.
“This initiative is more than just [about] running; we are creating a community and a culture that benefits both our bodies and our society at large,” Chamwala said.
He urged fellow athletes, social runners and walkers to buy tickets in large numbers so that the race could bring a positive impact to Malawi.
This year’s Be More Race, themed ‘Run in Blue’, will feature three categories—a 21-kilometre (km) competitive race, a 10km run, and 5km family run.
The event will also see free aerobics sessions, musical performances and the creation of children’s play areas.
A new addition to the event is the Be More Marketplace, a wellness space showcasing fitness communities and healthy living brands.
The 21-km race offers substantial prizes, where the winner will walk away with K1,650,000, the first runner-up receiving K1,200,000, the third runner getting K1,000,000 while the fourth and fifth-place runners would receive K800,000 and K600,000, respectively.
