
The country’s manufacturing sector is set for a major boost following the inauguration of Coca-cola Beverages Malawi’s new production line in Kanengo Lilongwe.
Officially inaugurating the state-of-the-art facility was President Lazarus Chakwera.
MIJ Online understands that the new production line’s capacity is 19, 200 bottles per hour.
Meanwhile, Sunil Gupta Chief Executive Officer for Coca-Cola Africa has described the 15 million US dollar investment as a major shift in production capacity.
Among others, Coca-cola Beverages produces soft-drinks like, Fanta, Sprite and Coca-cola.
In his remarks, Vitumbiko Mumba Minister of Trade and Industry said the investment will strengthen the country’s economy by supporting local industries.
Mumba said government is working on policies that are aimed at making the country a conducive environment for various businesses.
Officially opening the production plant, Chakwera welcomed the investment describing it as evidence that investors have confidence in his administration.
Meanwhile, Chakwera has advised the citizenry to embrace the spirit of investing their incomes, in other revenue generating activities, to effectively contribute to the country’s economy.
