Defending champions Ascent Soccer Academy and Kukoma Ntopwa booked their semifinal spots in the 2024 Goshen Fam Women’s National Championship following their respective victories at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre Monday.
Ascent had an easy ride over MK Academy as they registered a 4-0 victory in an early kickoff.
Faith Chimzimu produced a five-star performance after scoring a hattrick whereas Alepha Chimbeta scored the other goal.
This could be a big statement from Ascent as they are in contention to retain the title.
Ascent will face the winner between Civil Service United Women and Silver Strikers Ladies, who face off in another quarterfinal match today.
In a post-match interview, Ascent Coach Thom Mkolongo said he was pleased with the victory.
“We are taking each game as it comes. The players worked hard for the victory,” Mkolongo said.
In a late kickoff, Ntopwa stunned rivals FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women 2-1.
Shira Dimba gave Bullets the lead in the 12th minute but Esther Chauluka pulled Ntopwa level in the 23rd minute.
Kondawo Banda scored the winner just one minute after the restart.
Ntopwa owner Isaac Jomo Osman said they had a mission to accomplish.
“We came here with a purpose and deserved the victory,” Osman said.
Ntopwa will meet the winner between Moyale Sisters and Topik Sisters.
The champions will get K9 million and will qualify for the 2025 Caf Women’s Champions League/Cosafa Qualifier slated for later this year.
