Silver Strikers to axe nine players

TNM Super League champions Silver Strikers will release nine players ahead of the 2025 season.

Silver’s Chief Executive Officer, Patrick Chimimba, disclosed this in an interview Sunday.

Chimimba confirmed that the nine players who will not be part of the 2025 squad include midfielder Emmanuel Muyira, whose contract expired at the end of the season.

“We are in the process of finalising the list of players. We have already informed some players and we are discussing with two others regarding the mutual termination of their respective contracts,” Chimimba said.

He added that the players would be released based on recommendations from the Peter Mgangira-led technical panel.

“Some of the players will be loaned out to other teams to gain game time. Other players who were on loan last season will also go on loan for further development,” Chimimba said.

The future of veteran striker Atusaye Nyondo remains uncertain following the expiry of his one-year contract with the club.

Promising striker Christopher Gototo, who spent last season on loan at Silver’s arch-rivals Civil Service United, has been earmarked for another loan next season.

Madalitso Maso and Francis Nyirenda are also among the youngsters expected to be loaned out again.

Before the start of last season, Silver signed Binwell Katinji, George Chikooka, Macdonald Lameck, Gototo, Paul Kamsungwi and Charles Chipala. Nigerian striker Friday Osagie and Levison Maganizo joined the club during the mid-season transfer window.

All the teams are expected to bolster their respective squads ahead of the season.

Mighty Mukuru Wanderers have already signed striker Promise Kamwendo on a three-year contract.

Meanwhile, Silver have announced that they will strengthen their squad with four new players ahead of the season.

According to Chimimba, the club is looking for two defenders, a midfielder and a striker.

“We are looking for quality players who can help us as we participate in the Caf Champions League,” Chimimba said.

Silver have expressed their intention to take part in the 2025 Caf Champions League, as they are eligible having won the TNM Super League title. Wanderers are planning to participate in the Caf Confederation Cup after winning the Castel Challenge Cup.
