Minister of Labour Vitumbiko Mumba said on Sunday that he was looking forward to establishing proper links between Malawi and Jamaica in a bid to elevate the creative sector.

Mumba made this statement following his visit to Jamaica alongside musicians Annie Matumbi and Born Afrikan.

“Last night, January 4, 2025, I met a friend I have been in touch with for some time – the Garmamel himself, Buju Banton – and attended his intimate concert at Plantation Cove, Jamaica,” Mumba said.

He said that during their meeting, he told Buju that his political journey is influenced by his untold stories and that his political slogan ‘People Over Politics’ stemmed from a deep reflection on these same ‘Untold Stories’ in 2000.

“I came along with Born Afrikan and Annie Matumbi (Nyakwawa). We met the President of the Reggae Music Association. Big things are happening! Watch this space,” the minister said.

He added that, despite this being a private visit, his wife, Born Afrikan and Annie Matumbi were recognised.

Mumba, who managed the legendary musician Wambali Mkandawire, expressed his honour in meeting Jamaica’s Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Olivia Grange.
