South African theatre outfit Siyasinda Theatre Work said yesterday they were ready for showdown during a three-day festival set for the weekend.

The theatre group arrived in the country through Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe and will participate in the 17th edition of National Schools Arts Festival (Nasfest) International Youth Cultural Festival, which is led by Light of Youth Creative Organisation ( Lyco) and other partners.

The festival, which will also feature performances from the country’s 12 secondary schools after they prevailed during regional contests, will be held at Madsoc Theatre in Lilongwe, starting tomorrow through to Sunday.

The South African theatre outfit was given a tumultuous traditional dance welcome by Likuni Boys Secondary School, one of the schools that will be performing, upon arrival in Lilongwe.

Some of its members joining in Director of the group Aaron Tywabi said people should expect the best from them.

“We are ready to offer a range of acts, from drama, poetry to traditional dances. We are also looking forward to engaging with Malawian groups during workshops,” Tywabi said.

Organised by Lyco— in collaboration with the Department of Arts, National Library Service, Malawi National Commission for Unesco and Copyright Society of Malawi (Cosoma) through Copyright Fund—the festival will see top three schools walking away with medals and cash prizes.

Nasfest Artistic Producer Shafiq Kalumo called upon people to patronise the event.

“We are excited that international artists have started arriving in the country. We are expecting another group from Zambia tomorrow (today),” Kalumo said.
