BACK TO ROOTS — Mponda

New FCB Nyasa Big Bullets coach Peter Mponda has expressed his desire to dominate the domestic scene after reuniting with his childhood club following his sudden departure from Silver Strikers.

Bullets unveiled Mponda Monday at the team’s headquarters in Blantyre, where it was announced that he had signed a three-year deal with the Airtel Top 8 holders.

During the press briefing, both parties avoided questions regarding Mponda’s departure from Silver, who had recently disclosed that the former national football team captain had a release clause of K26 million.

Mponda made it clear that he would strengthen his squad before the start of the season.

“I want to win everything. I went to South Africa two years ago and found the team at the bottom of the table but we finished fourth. Last season, I went to Silver and won the league championship.

“It is a bigger challenge coaching Bullets than Silver but I enjoy winning and we will strengthen the team where necessary with the players we need. I have already submitted the list to the board,” Mponda said.

The former Black Leopards defender declined to comment on the reported K26 million release clause, which Silver indicated had been included in Mponda’s contract.

Similarly, Bullets acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Albert Chigoga declined to comment on the matter.

“Today is all about the coach’s unveiling; allow me not to comment on the matter of our coach’s former employer,” he said.

Chigoga said that Mponda had signed a performance-based contract, the details of which remain confidential.

The Bullets interim CEO confirmed that Mponda would name his backroom staff but declined to disclose them.

Inside sources told Times Sport that Mponda’s former teammates at both club and national level, Robert Ng’ambi and Fisher Kondowe, would be part of his assistants.

The sources also indicated that Zicco Mkanda, a strikers’ trainer at Silver, would follow Mponda to Bullets.

Another former Bullets player, Noel Kaole, has been earmarked as a physical fitness trainer.

Meanwhile, Silver’s CEO Patrick Chimimba declined to comment on the K26 million clause.

In a related development, football analyst Roy Abramo M’dechi has warned Bullets players of tough times, especially those with indiscipline.

“I know Mponda as a disciplinarian, and those who are irresponsible will not last,” M’dechi said.
