Oliver Mtukudzi celebrated

Musicians in Zimbabwe over the weekend celebrated the life of iconic mbira star Oliver Mtukudzi at Pakare Paye in Norton, Harare.

Mtukudzi, who released several albums, inspired many artists in Malawi including working with others including Agorosso.

He also had stints in the country performing at Lake of Stars and Blantyre Arts festivals.

According to Metro and Star, scores of people gathered at Pakare Paye for the celebration, where they enjoyed music performances that rekindled memories of the legendary musician’s feats.

The event also marked the inauguration of the Oliver Mtukudzi International Festival of Arts.

In an emotional act, Mtukudzi’s daughter Selmor could not hold back tears as she served her father’s track ‘Ronga Dondo’.

Other performances on the day came from Sarungano and The Black Spirits Band, Jah Prayzah, Angie Nyabinde and Mokoomba.

Fondly called Tuku, Mtukudzi died on January 23 2019 at the age of 66.
