By Bernard Mhone:
Incumbent General Secretary (GS) Masiya Nyasulu is the front runner in the race for Northern Region Football Association (NRFA) presidency after securing five nominations ahead of the polls slated for February 15 2025 in Mzuzu.
But incumbent NRFA president Chauka Mwasinga has earned one nomination. At the end of the nomination window which closed Wednesday Nyasulu earned nominations from Chitipa, Rumphi, Mzuzu, Mzimba and Likoma district football associations whereas Mwasinga got nomination from Karonga.
But Nkhata-Bay did not nominate any person for the position of the president. A total of 28 delegates from all seven district football associations are expected to vote during the Elective General Assembly.
Nyasulu said he was excited for earning nominations.
“I have crossed the first step. I hope their nominations will translate into votes. The battle is not over yet,” Nyasulu said.
But Mwasinga was not answering his mobile phone after several attempts.
Sports analyst Bravo Chiperesa said Nyasulu should not relax, despite earning more nominations.
“I am not surprised that Nyasulu has got more nominations as he has been very active in football due to his position. At this stage, anything can happen,” Chiperesa said.
Meanwhile, Ralph Kasililika and Epimark Lwanja will battle for the position of vice president.
Incumbent vice General Secretary, Desire Bellings Mwenekiyombwe who got six nominations will compete againt foremer Chintheche United General Secretary Lupakisho Simwera who earned one nomination on the position.
Kolezi Phiri, Felix Chipeta and Rose Phiri will go unopposed as legal advisor, treasurer, and female executive member respectively. Aunward Munthali, Joshua Chinguwo, Shadreck Chiundiza and Washisa Mnkhondya will compete for the remaining three positions as committee members.
