Centre for Arts Education and Development (Caed), a non-governmental organisation with a focus on arts and the creative industries in general, has entered the market.

Registered and certified by the Malawi government, the NGO has also been registered and approved by Non-governmental Organisations Regulatory Authority (Ngora) and Council for Non-governmental Organisations in Malawi (Congoma).

“We are also endorsed by ministries responsible for Culture and Education, being policy holder institutions under whose jurisdiction we will be operating as required by the law,” Caed Board Chairperson Joseph Chiwaula said.

Chiwaula said the organisation sought to develop and promote the creative industry through education, research, preservation and presentation of sustainable livelihoods.

“We have a board of trustees made up of persons who have expertise and experience in arts and culture, education, civic education, communication, economic development and legal issues,” he said.

Chiwaula said the overall goal of the organisation was to create, develop and promote products that are inspired by the country’s cultural heritage.

“We want to complement government’s efforts and initiatives in the provision of arts education and development and community empowerment through the arts for national economic development.

“This relates to the overall goal of 2015 Malawi Cultural Policy to identify, preserve and protect as well as promote Malawian arts and culture for national identity and sustainable socio-economic development,” Chiwaula said.
