
Mzuzu City Hammers and Service Civil United equalled power after a goal-less stalemate in the Airtel Top 8 quarterfinal first leg match at Mzuzu Stadium Sunday.
The two sides will face each other in the second leg on May 18 at a venue to be announced.
This is the second quarterfinal match to end in a goal-less stalemate in three matches after holders FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Creck Sporting Club equalled power a fortnight ago.
Hammers Coach Steve Nkwinika said he was disappointed with the draw.
“We tried our best but it was not our day,” Nkwinika said.
On his part, Makawa rued missed chances.
“We wanted to win the match. We have the second leg; so, we will prepare well for the match,” Makawa said.
Meanwhile, Airtel Top 8 first leg quarterfinal matches will be concluded today as Silver Strikers will host Moyale Barracks at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe.
The two sides have registered mixed fortunes at the start of the new season.
Silver would be looking to put their TNM Super League poor start behind.
On the other hand, Moyale have enjoyed a perfect start to the season after registering two victories in the league.
Silver Coach Peter Mgangira urged his charges to wrap up the tie in the first leg.
“This is an important match as we are playing at home. We have to win at all cost. It is an opportunity to turn the tables around,” Mgangira said.
On his part, Moyale Coach Pritchard Mwansa said his charges were determined to upset the hosts.
“It is a tricky match but we believe we can get something from it,” Mwansa said.
Mighty Wanderers defeated Karonga United 1-0 in the first leg courtesy of Blessings Mwalilino’s goal.
Wanderers and Karonga will face each other in a second leg match at Karonga Stadium this weekend.
