Bullets smash Songwe to open 3-point gap

By Llywellenie Mpasa:

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets shot their way back to the summit of the TNM Super League with a commanding 7-0 victory over newcomers Songwe United at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre Sunday.

On Saturday, Kamuzu Barracks were leading the log standings on goal difference, having thrashed Mafco 4-0.

Bullets lead the table with nine points from three matches whereas Kamuzu Barracks are second with six points, at par with Mighty Wanderers (third), Ekhaya (fourth), Moyale (fifth) and Karonga United (sixth).

At Kamuzu Stadium, it was a commanding display of attacking football from Bullets, who wasted no time in exploiting defensive lapses in the Songwe backline.

Bullets went into the break with a comfortable 3-0 cushion, thanks to an eighth-minute penalty converted by Babatunde Adepoju and a quick brace from Wongani Lungu in the 34th and 38th minutes.

Lungu and Chikumbutso Salima were particularly impressive in the early stages of the match, setting the tone for a one-sided affair.

The second half saw Bullets maintaining their momentum, with Salima finding the net just two minutes after the restart.

Songwe goalkeeper Francis Kabango had a tough afternoon, overwhelmed by the relentless wave of Bullets attacks.

SCORED—Phodo

The visitors’ misery deepened when Mussa Mwampope turned the ball into his own net in the 52nd minute, before Maxwell Phodo piled on the agony with a well-placed finish five minutes later.

Hassan Kajoke sealed the rout with a well-taken goal in the 89th minute.

Speaking after the match, Bullets Coach Peter Mponda said he was satisfied with the team’s performance but urged his players to remain grounded.

“I am happy with the gameplan.

“However, the first few minutes worried me with our complacency. We are not yet where I want this team to be and there is still a lot of work to do,” Mponda said.

On the other hand, Songwe Coach Enock Mhone conceded defeat, acknowledging that his team had underperformed.

“The match did not live up to our expectations. We will go back to the drawing board and work on our mistakes,” he said.

Lungu, who netted twice in the first half, was named man of the match for his outstanding contribution to the emphatic victory.
