There have been mixed fortunes for Malawians in the South Africa Premier Soccer League transfer window ahead of the season’s kickoff on Saturday with the MTN8.
The transfer window has seen former Malawi National Football Team captain Limbikani Mzava returning to top flight action with Magesi FC while Royal AM Coach John Maduka continues to miss out on signing new players.
Striker Gabadinho Mhango is staying put at Marumo Gallants, who bought Moroka Swallows’ franchise.
Maduka is unable to beef up his squad because Royal are still under a Fifa transfer ban after failing to pay one of their former players.
This means Royal cannot bring in new players but they have let winger Menzi Masuku move out to Lamontville Golden Arrows, with Shaune Mogaila going to Sekhukhune United.
It is expected that the two losses will affect Maduka’s squad as they will narrow the depth of his team.
According to SuperSport.com, Mzava is expected to add experience to Magesi.
“Former AmaZulu defender Limbikani Mzava makes a return to the South African elite league two seasons after he left Usuthu, with the Malawi international to add experience to the squad.
“He also played for Bloemfontein Celtic, Mpumalanga Black Aces, Lamontville Golden Arrows and Highlands Park,” a report on the online publication reads.
Other players that Magesi have added to their squad are Delano Abrahams, Tshepo Kakora, Gift Motupa and Kgaogelo Sekgota
Gallants are said to have made a slow start to the window as they work out how best to gel their squad from South Africa’s second-tier last season with that of Swallows.
“There is much work for coach Dylan Kerr to do. They have cut their squad considerably as they work out who to keep between the Gallants team of last year and the Moroka Swallows franchise they purchased,” the SuperSport report reads.
