In a bid to promote gender equality and challenge some societal stereotypes, Malawian gospel music sensation Miracle Chinga has released her single Thamanga, an uplifting ode to women.
The song is set to resonate with women across the country, fostering a sense of financial independence, hard work and determination as well as personal growth and development.
In an interview, Chinga said she wrote the song when she was feeling overwhelmed in life.
“This is an anthem of encouragement. I am encouraging women not to depend on anyone, but work extra hard to be financially independent,” she said.
In part she sings: “Chauta apatsa olimbikira, osamangokhala kupinda manja, odya zake alibe mlandu, zaeni pena kudzetsa m’nyozo.”
Chinga said she hopes the song will inspire hard work and determination in many.
“I hope my song conveys the message that women are capable and strong. They just need to believe in themselves and their dreams. “I want women to know that they are not alone in their struggles and that they have the power to overcome any obstacles,” said the artist.
