Lazarus Chakwera commits to improve education

President Lazarus Chakwera has commissioned new infrastructure projects at Domasi College of Education in Zomba with a promise that his government will deliver in the education sector and other development areas.

At the ceremony held in Zomba, Chakwera also commissioned Nalikule College of Education which was constructed in Lilongwe and started operations in 2017.

The Japanese Government financed the projects.

“This place has been developed professionally. We have good infrastructure like a library, laboratories and even well-furnished classrooms. We thank the Japanese Government for the gesture,” he said.

Chakwera said as one way of thanking the Japanese Government, his leadership would makes sure it creates job opportunities for graduates of Domasi and Nalikule colleges.

He further urged students to be disciplined.

“Make sure you respect laws and guidelines regulating teachers under their councils as well as National Council for Higher Education,” Chakwera said.

Before commissioning the infrastructure, Chakwera toured the construction of Domasi Community Hospital and other projects sites in Zomba City.

“To say the truth, development activities are being done without preference to region. This is what is in the Constitution of Malawi that all Malawians need to have access to everything they need from health, agriculture, sports and education. Our government ended tribalism. That is why we are doing developments everywhere,” he said.

He also called on political leaders not to underrate the relationship which Malawi has with other nations.

“I have been invited to Germany to get support to complete Domasi Community Hospital. So soon I will be going to Germany to acquire the funds to complete the hospital. We also need ships on Lake Malawi. Let you not wonder when you see new ships on the lake,” he said.

Chakwera also urged Malawians to register for national identity cards for them to have a chance to cast their votes.

He said only those that register will be able to choose development over everything else.

Japanese Ambassador to Malawi Youichi Oya said his government is committed to uplift education in the country.
