FCB Nyasa Big Bullets are in an untenable situation with several key players yet to commit their future to the club.
Some of the players who are keeping the club guessing on their next move are defenders Nickson Nyasulu, Alick Lungu, Gomezgani Chirwa and Clyde Seneji.
The five players’ contracts are in the last six months, which gives them the freedom to negotiate with any team of their choice.
Reports indicate that Nyasulu, who was voted best defender for the People’s Team last season, is in Zimbabwe where he could sign for top club Platinum Stars with his contract running out next month.
However, Bullets Chief Executive Officer Albert Chigoga, while acknowledging the matter, downplayed the team’s delays in negotiating new deals for its top players.
“We will announce names of the players we have released at an appropriate time. The same applies to the announcement of players who will join the club. At this point, we only have five players whose contracts require renewals. The good news is that all the five already agreed to sign new contracts, including Nickson Nyasulu,” Chigoga said.
Information reaching Times Sport indicates that Bullets gave the five players contracts to sign but they differed on several aspects.
The players could leave Bullets as free agents should they fail to agree on signing new contracts.
Another player whose contract is expiring in March this year and is free to open negotiations with another team is Mike Mkwate, who has just returned from a long injury lay-off.
Meanwhile, Bullets’ new coach Peter Mponda has submitted his new players’ wish list for the new season.
Mponda said he wants a striker, a midfielder and a centre back in his quest to realize his dream of a clean sweep in the 2025 season.
“If we want to compete and win a trophy or trophies this season, we must work hard to improve the team in all areas that require beefing up,” he said.
Mponda picked Fisher Kondowe and Robert Ng’ambi as his assistants after returning from Silver Strikers where he helped the team to win the 2024 TNM Super League title.
However, Ng’ambi has turned down the offer.
Other technical panel members that Mponda picked are Noel Kaole as fitness trainer and team manager James Chilapondwa as team manager.
This means there is no place for former assistant Heston Munthali, with Mponda also reported to be eyeing Silver goalkeeper trainer Victor Mphande in a position that Vincent Gona currently holds.
Bullets finished third in the league and managed to win the Airtel Top 8 after beating Silver 1-0.
The People’s Team dominated local football in 2023 with a clean sweep of all trophies on offer.
