FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Coach Kalisto Pasuwa believes that there is time for his side to fight for the TNM Super League title despite the team’s poor showing in the first round.
The Zimbabwean mentor told journalists after his charges moved to fourth position on the 16-member log table following a 2-0 victory over struggling Bangwe All Stars at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre Wednesday.
This means Bullets have registered their fifth win, after drawing eight times and suffering two losses in the first half of the season.
Following the win, Bullets dislodged Kamuzu Barracks on fourth position on goal difference, as they are tied on 23 points from 15 matches.
However, Bullets are 14 points behind leaders Silver Strikers in the title race, heading into the final half of the season.
Despite the gap, Pasuwa insisted that the title race is not over yet.
“We, as Bullets, talk of the championship on the last day of the season. We still have 15 games remaining.
“[Yes], we lost 17 points in the first half and other teams can also lose points in the second round,” he said.
After a barren first half, Nigerian striker Babatunde Adepoju opened the scoring just four minutes after the break.
Four minutes later, Chawanangwa Gumbo doubled the lead for Bullets.
On his part, Bangwe Coach Rodgers Yasin rued missed chances.
“We created some chances but lacked composure upfront,” Yasin said.
Elsewhere, Karonga United and Mzuzu City Hammers shared the spoils after a 1-1 stalemate at Karonga Ground.
Blessings Mwalilino scored for Karonga whereas Chimwemwe Chunga netted for Hammers.
Hammers have 25 points from 15 matches while Karonga are 11th with 19 points.
Mafco came from behind twice to force a 2-2 stalemate against Civil Service United at Chitowe Ground.
Muhammad Biason grabbed the opener for Civil just three into the match but Mphatso Philimon pulled Mafco level in the 45th minute.
China Chirwa restored Civil’s lead in the 55th minute but Auspicious Kadzongola equalised in the 68th minute.
Meanwhile, second-placed Mighty Mukuru Wanderers will face rookies Baka City at Karonga Ground this afternoon. Wanderers have a chance to reduce the gap with Silver to nine points if they beat Baka.
The Nomads have 25 points from 14 matches.
